While NGD is not
a hardcore-specific blog (If you’re looking for one we’d suggest that you check
out the Seattle Passive Aggressive), we
still nurture a love for the ample PNW scene. Brutal, raw and dissonant, White
Wards are one of the most exciting bands to come out of the Olympia music scene
in a while. Their blistering brand of powerviolence is unadulterated intensity
incarnate, and just like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, listening at home is
only masturbation. I saw them a few weeks ago at the Black Lodge with
Condominium, Vex, and Dreamdecay, and believe me, trying to get a good picture
of vocalist Joey Mora (who really does spend almost as much time on his back as
on his feet) is easier said than done. The band is gearing up to release their
3rd full-length record on Seattle’s own Iron Lung Records this
November and I can’t wait to get a copy. For now, you can feast on the record’s
first single, a ruthless 1 minute and 15 second track titled "Paint
Huffer", above. It's also available as a 7"
here, or from the band at any of their shows. No word yet on when they'll
be back in Seattle, but you can bet we'll be keeping an eye out.
