If you haven't been to an in-store performance at Sonic Boom Records before then this is the perfect time to do it. This Friday at 6 pm they're hosting Thao & the Get Down Stay Down's only Seattle performance to celebrate the release of their new record "We the Common" (According to SB, but I know that are also coming to Neumos on March 7th). The record marks the 4th full-length to be released by the San Francisco duo, consisting of Thao Nguyen (guitar and vocals) and Adam Thompson (vocals, bass and keyboards), and infectious singles like "Holy Roller" (above) and "We the Common (For Valerie Bolden)" have a sort of breezy, folk-pop sound that might be described as a cross between tUnE-yArDs and Feist.
Shows at Sonic Boom are usually a pretty low-key affair with the bands generally starting at or around the listed time and playing between 5 and 10 songs...really whatever the mood calls for. Also, if you've got a minute I recommend looking around the shop's inventory (which I'm sure will include the new Thao record); the prices are reasonable and the folks behind the counter are pretty awesome.
