Big name acts include 90's dream pop icons Mazzy Star at Neptune tomorrow night, and Of Montreal at Neumos on Wednesday. The former are touring behind 'Seasons of Your Day', their first since '96, and the later behind 'Lousy With Sylvianbriar', which many people (including myself) think is a step back in the right direction for them/him after a few strange turns. However, if neither of those options work, the Deerhoof show at Vera on Thursday, and some of the Barsuk Records 15th anniversary events look pretty good too.
Local band shows: if you like the hard stuff, then tonight you should be heading down to Black Lodge for Condition, Iron Lung, Bone Sickness and Drowner; if you don't, then go to the Crocodile's back bar and support Wind Burial (formerly Snowdrift). Both the Stickers, Haunted Horses show tomorrow, and the Curse of the North, LB!, show on Friday give a great excuse to check out Waid's (where the majority of former Comet power booker Mamma Casserole's effort seem to have gone). However, my personal favorite local option this week is the Guitar Worship Service at the Josephine on Saturday. Featuring 9 performances by local musicians (most of them integral pieces of larger bands), the pictures from the last service were amazing. In the words of the late great Mr. Reed, "Take a walk on the wild side". Have a great week!
