This Month in Photos: October 2013

October was a great month for music, starting with the new Macefield Music Festival in Ballard. Macefield was held at the Tractor, Sunset, and Conor Byrne, and featured bands like Children of Kids, Lures, Princess, and many more! Then there was a great series of in-store performances at Everyday Music. We visited a couple Capitol Hill venues we haven't been to before: Cock Pit and Velocity Dance Center. To top it all off, we saw the dynamic band Haim. DAMN, those girls rocked Neumos. Looking forward to what November has in store for us!

*Updated 11/3* Upcoming Seattle Shows

Well crap! I snoozed and I lost; despite the fact that it doesn't happen until this Friday night, the Tim Hecker performance at the Good Shepard Center is officially sold out. Lots of other good stuff this week though.

Big name acts include 90's dream pop icons Mazzy Star at Neptune tomorrow night, and Of Montreal at Neumos on Wednesday.  The former are touring behind 'Seasons of Your Day', their first since '96, and the later behind 'Lousy With Sylvianbriar', which many people (including myself) think is a step back in the right direction for them/him after a few strange turns. However, if neither of those options work, the Deerhoof show at Vera on Thursday, and some of the Barsuk Records 15th anniversary events look pretty good too.

Local band shows: if you like the hard stuff, then tonight you should be heading down to Black Lodge for Condition, Iron Lung, Bone Sickness and Drowner; if you don't, then go to the Crocodile's back bar and support Wind Burial (formerly Snowdrift). Both the Stickers, Haunted Horses show tomorrow, and the Curse of the North, LB!, show on Friday give a great excuse to check out Waid's (where the majority of former Comet power booker Mamma Casserole's effort seem to have gone). However, my personal favorite local option this week is the Guitar Worship Service at the Josephine on Saturday. Featuring 9 performances by local musicians (most of them integral pieces of larger bands), the pictures from the last service were amazing. In the words of the late great Mr. Reed, "Take a walk on the wild side". Have a great week!

This Month In Releases: October 2013

Welcome to our favorite local releases post for the month of October!! There are 12 EPs/LPs and two compilations featured here, but believe me when I tell you that it took quite a bit of work to whittle down the list of potentials even to this point. As always, the rules are as follows: all records were released during the month of October by either a local artist or a local record company. They appear in no particular order and singles and 7" were not included (unless they were EP length). If I didn't include your release I either didn't like it, didn't hear it, or one or both of us has the wrong release date. Click the link in the album title for more from each artist. Enjoy!
